Science and Technology for Sustainable Future

The two-day national seminar on ‘Science and Technology for sustainable future’ organized by P. K. M. College of Education, Madampam in association with St. Joseph’s College of Education, Mysore cosponsored by Kerala State Council Science, Technology and Environment commenced on 24th February 2023, Friday at 9:45 am
The inaugural ceremony began with prayer and the gathering was welcomed by Dr. Prasanth Mathew, Asst. Prof. Dept of Physical Science, PKM College and the convenor of the seminar. In his speech, he provided an overview of the program and explicated the 5 different perspectives of the seminar. Dr. Sr. Jessy N C, Principal, PKM College of Education, presided the meeting. The program was inaugurated by Mrs. Jyothi Keloth, Director, Science Park, Kannur by lighting the lamp, followed by an inaugural address. The keynote address was given by Dr. Biju R. K, Senate member, Kannur University who pointed out the significance of science and technology in the fields of Environment, Health, Peace and Humanity. Then Dr. Priya Mathew, Principal, St Joseph College of Education, Mysore released the Cover page for the seminar proceedings and she conveyed her wishes for the success of the seminar. Dr. Rekha K. R, Staff Secretary, PKM College of Education, Ms. Aiswarya K, Chairperson, PKM College, Ms. Meryl Archana, student teacher, St Joseph’s College of Education Mysore and Ms. Sayanirani, student, GHSS Sreekandapuram, provided felicitations in the meeting. Ms. Christy Philip, one of the student coordinators of the seminar proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Jyothi Keloth and Dr. Biju R. K. Were honoured with a memento. Then the group was dispersed for tea break.
The Technical Session 1, on Science and Technology in Sustainable Lifestyle, began at 11 45 am. The resource person for the session was given by Dr. Sreeja P, Asst Professor in Botany, Sir Syed College Taliparamba. The session was chaired by Ms. Anitta Roy and she introduced the resource person to the gathering. In the session, Dr. Sreeja P, duly concentrated on the practicality or the utilitarian dimension of the topic. All the ideas were presented in the perspective of a teacher. This was followed by an interactive session thereafter Ms Anitta Roy thanked the resource person. At the end, Dr. Sreeja P and Ms Anitta Roy were honoured with a certificate by Dr. Sr. Jessy N. C. The gathering was dispersed for lunch break.
The papers were presented in two venues from 2 pm to 3:15 pm. There were 9 papers from Category I school students and 10 papers from category 2 student teachers.
After the interval, started the technical session 2 on Batteries for Sustainable Energy Storage. Dr. Shibu P. V, Asst. Prof in Chemistry was the resource person for the session. Ms. Christy Philip
Chaired the session and introduced the resource person to the audience. At the end, the resource person and the session chair were honoured by Dr. Priya Mathew. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Christy Philip.
Among the papers presented, the awards were given for the little scientists in the categories : best paper, best individual presenter and best group presenters. The first day of the National seminar came to end at 4:45 pm with the National Anthem.
Day 2
The second day of the national seminar commenced at 9 15 am with a panel discussion on Sensitising global issues in the schools, colleges, teacher education institutions and society: A cultural academic interaction. The moderators were Dr. Prasanth Mathew and Dr. Priya Mathew and the panellists were Dr. Sr. Jessy N C, Dr. Veena Appukuttan, Dr. Rekha K R and Mrs. Jomol Jose. 18 papers were presented, followed by the discussion.
After tea break, started the technical session 3 on Technology enabled education for sustainable future. The resource person for the session was Dr. Biju K, Assistant Professor in Department of Education, Central University of Tamil Nadu. Ms. Arya K I chaired the session. She introduced and invited the resource person to handle the session. Towards the end, Dr. Maya J Pillai presented the certificate to Dr. Biju K and the session chair. It came to an end with Ms. Arya K. I thanking the resource person.
The group reassembled in the main auditorium, after the lunch break for the technical session 4 at 1:45 pm. Dr. K Thiyagu, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Central University of Kerala joined online to handle the session on Techno Pedagogy Skills. Ms. Christeena Raju chaired the session, giving a brief introduction to the resource person. The session came to an end by 2:50 pm.
The valedictory function started at 3 pm with a prayer. The function was welcomed by Christeena Raju.the presidential address was delivered by IQAC co- Ordinator Veena Appukkuttan and valedictory address was provided by Dr.Priya Mathew, principal of st. Joseph College of Education ,Mysuru. The report presentation was done by Arya. K I. After this there was a feedback session in which Ms. Anagha. VJ shared her feedback regarding the session. The next feedback was provided by student teacher Ms. Swathy Krishna from St.Joseph College,Mysuru. The certificates for the paper presenters was distributed by Dr. Jessy N C and
Dr.Prasanth Mathew. The valedictory session came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Anitta Roy, student co-ordinator of the seminar. After the valedictory session the remaining paper presentations and discussions were continued. Arsha, the student teacher of English presented a report based on the programms. After this an interaction of students teachers of both of the colleges were taken place to exchange ideas regarding pedagogic dimension. This session came to an end at 4.45 pm.
