Word Theatre Day 2023

As part of Word Theatre Day, Chrysalis, the learning community for English teachers organized a day observance called Thespia on Monday, March 27, 2023. The program began at 11 a.m. in the English class cum method lab. Ms. Christy Maria Joy gave the welcome speech. Jyothis Cyriac entered as the character Thespis after the speech and dramatically presented the origin of theatre.
He highlighted the importance of Greek theatre in the history of drama and the contributions of the first actor, Thespis. Following this performance, the adaptation of the play Pygmalion by G. B. Shaw, performed by Anagha VJ, Devika KK, and Arsha V, was presented on the digital screen. The students wrote the script and recorded their performance using a mobile camera. Later, the scenes were compiled as a drama by adding a background score and other necessary elements. The performance marked the creative and artistic talents of the students, and for the members of the learning community, it was a novel experience. After the screening of the drama, the character of Thespis re-entered and concluded his performance by exhorting the students to further explore the possibilities of theatre in the teaching of the English language and literature. Ms. Arsha V proposed the vote of thanks. The program came to an end with the concluding remarks by Dr. Rekha K. R.
