Report on Webinar “Time for Nature”Organized By Dept. of Natural Science, Bhoomithrasena,In Association WithSeek (Society for Environmental Education in Kerala)

Nature is essential to our lives from the food on our plates to the clothes we wear, from medicines to mental health benefits. The UN declared theme for the World Environment day 2020 is Biodiversity Conservation. It is the need of the hour. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic situation we used online digital platform for conducting a webinar in the same. Dept. of Natural Science, Bhoomithrasena, IQAC, PKM College of Education in association with SEEK (Society for Environmental Education in Kerala) has conducted a webinar on “Time for Nature” on 26th June 2020 at 11 am. The inaugural session was started at 11.30 am. A total of 50 people were participated in the session. The participants included B.Ed. students, teachers etc.
The welcome speech was delivered by Mrs. Jomol Jose, Asst. Professor in Natural Science, P.K.M. College of Education. The session was presided by Dr. Jessy N.C, Principal, PKM College of Education. Respected principal Dr. Jessy N.C. delivered the presidential address. Then the chief guest Dr. John C. Mathew, Environment Programme Manager, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change Govt. of Kerala inaugurated the webinar. He also appreciated PKM College of Education for the initiative. Later Environmental Officer Sreeja Raj and Asst. Environmental officer Tom Augustine were explained about the different schemes offered for schools and colleges such as Paristhithikam, Workshops, Training programmes, Day observances etc. under Kerala Directorate of Environment and Climate Change. This was a wonderful experience for all.
After the inaugural address the technical session was started by our resource person Dr. Manoj K., HOD, Environmental Studies, Kannur University. He was delivered a wonderful and excellent theme presentation on the need of Biodiversity Conservation. Human beings use the nature for his life but he still mistreats the nature. Biodiversity is the foundation that supports all life on land and below water. He explained about different types of diversity such as genetic diversity, species diversity, Ecosystem diversity, mega diversity countries etc. Later he explained about the values of biodiversity such as food value, medicine value, fuel value, fiber, productive use value (timber value, fishery value, bio fertilizers etc.), ecosystem service value etc. Later he explained about the threats to biodiversity, different pollutions and the need for conservation of biodiversity. He said everyone should work together to protect the nature that support us all.
Student co coordinator Jain James anchored throughout the programme. Student co coordinator Bency Scaria was delivered vote of thanks for the function. The session was ended at 12.45 pm. Later a feedback form was given for all participants. The e- certificates were distributed later.
