International Ozone Day Celebration and Inauguration of “SCIFIESTA”- 2025–26

The International Ozone Day celebration and the inauguration of “SCIFIESTA”-2025–26, series of science day events, were jointly organized at Madampam P.K.M. College of Education on September 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the College Video Conference Hall. The event was organized by the Department of Physical Science in association with NSS and IQAC. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. M.K. Satheesh Kumar, eminent Atmospheric Scientist and Professor at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Teacher-student representative Shreya K.K. delivered the welcome address, and Dr. Prasanth Mathew, Vice Principal of the College, presided over the function. In his keynote address on “The Dual Role of Ozone”, Dr. Satheesh highlighted the need to protect stratospheric ozone and explained the harmful effects of tropospheric ozone. He called for reducing environmental pollution as a means of safeguarding the ozone layer. This was followed by the Ozone Protection Pledge, led by student Arya Mukundan, which all participants took together. Dr. Veena Appukkuttan, IQAC Coordinator, and Arun K, Union Chairperson, conveyed their greetings. Student coordinator Arya C.V. proposed the vote of thanks. As part of the observance, saplings were planted on the campus to promote ozone protection. The Physical Science students presented a documentary titled “Heal the Ozone, Heal the Earth”, and a poster-making competition on environmental protection was also conducted for students. The United Nations Ozone Secretariat’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Megumi Seki, also extended greetings and best wishes for the college’s Ozone Day programmes.
