P.K.M. College of Education Participates in the International Conference on Robotics in Education – RiE 2026

P.K.M. College of Education proudly presented a poster titled “STEM Education Initiatives of Teacher Education Institution: An Institutional Model” at the 17th International Conference on Robotics in Education (RiE 2026), held at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, Wolfenbüttel, Germany, from 15 to 17 April 2026. The authors of the work are Dr. Prasanth Mathew, Director, STEM Academy and Associate Professor & Vice Principal of P.K.M. College of Education, Jwala Thomas, Project Associate, STEM Mentors@PKM and Jacob Prasanth, Project Associate, STEM@Schools, ST.Josephs College of Engineering, Palai. Among them, Jwala Thomas and Jacob Prasanth attended the conference in person and successfully presented the poster to an international academic audience. The institutional model presented by the team primarily focuses on equipping student teachers with the required competencies to effectively integrate robotics and STEM learning in school education. This institutional model can be effectively implemented by teacher education institutions at both national and international levels. The importance of STEM education in India, particularly in Kerala, was also highlighted during the presentation. The conference witnessed participation from scholars and professionals from 25 countries, making it a vibrant global platform for academic exchange and collaboration. Notably, only two papers were presented from India, (P.K.M. College of Education & IIT, Bombay) highlighting the select representation from the country in this prestigious international conference.
The conference featured around 60 research paper presentations, covering a wide range of themes including robotics practices in education, artificial intelligence in classrooms, STEM learning approaches, and innovative pedagogical strategies aimed at enhancing teaching and learning through technology.
Aligned with the National Educational Policy 2020 of India and UNSDG 4, Institution Innovation Council of P.K.M. College of Education initiated STEM Education to strengthen teacher competencies for the 21st century. STEM Educational Initiatives provides hands-on training in robotics, coding, electronics and 3D printing through industry-academia collaboration with Srishti Robotics and Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Kochi. The STEM education classes are led by Mr.Sunil Paul, CEO of Srishti Robotics and Technologies. As part of this initiative, P.K.M. College of Education was officially declared a Centre for STEM Education Initiative in April 2025 by Adv. Sajeev Joseph, MLA.
