Reading Day and Month Observance –KATHIRMMA 2026

P.K.M. College of Education marked the beginning of the National Reading Day & Month Observance 2026, titled ‘Kathirmma’, with an inaugural function held on 19 June 2026 at 9:30 a.m. in the College General Hall. The programme was jointly organized by the College Library, the Departments of English and Malayalam, NSS, and IQAC. The observance was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. Prasanth Mathew. Librarian Ms. Deepa John welcomed the gathering, while Dr. Veena Appukuttan, IQAC Coordinator, conveyed Reading Day greetings. The vote of thanks was delivered by student teacher Ms. Vismaya N.P. Following the inaugural session, students and faculty members assembled in the library to take the Reading Day Pledge. A banner carrying the message of Reading Day was also displayed on the college campus to promote the importance of reading. As part of the month-long observance from 19 June to 18 July, the Principal inaugurated a book collection drive under the “Aksharakkoottam” Project. A variety of literary and creative programmes have been planned for students, including Book Review and Reels Competitions, Kavyasadas (Poetry Gathering), “The Dramatic World of Shakespeare,” and several other activities aimed at fostering a culture of reading and creativity among future educators.
